The Family Folk Explosion is a collective of San Francisco Bay Area musicians that come together in a Last Waltz style Rock ‘n’ Roll Roadshow curated and hosted by Mark Matos with members of his Os Beaches and Trans Van Santos projects making up the “house band” along with young sharpshooting stars Matthew “Wild Hawk” Welde and Annie Girl, and a star studded cast of Special Guests who have included Steve Taylor, Tyson Vogel of Two Gallants, Sean Hayes, Danny Pearson (American Music Club), Nels Andrews, Indianna Hale, Real Vocal String Quartet (Feist, Mirah), Little Wings, Matt Adams (The Blank Tapes),  Will Sprott,  and many others.  The Family Folk Explosion came to life at the Harmony Music Festival in 2011 (where the loose outfit performed a legendary five hour festival closing encore set on a side stage and where MM and Annie Girl were blessed by the hand of High Priest Wayne Coyne over a slice of pizza.)  The FFE held a 5 week residency at San Francisco’s Amnesia Music Hall to kick off 2012, filling the venerable Mission District venue to capacity every week  with what the SF Weekly called ”an electric unpredictability…  a sense that the music could leap into something incredible at any moment, and it often does.”

THE FAMILY FOLK EXPLOSION IS NOT A BAND.  IT’S MORE LIKE A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL COMMUNITY CENTER OF THE SPIRIT, A ROAD MAN’S ROAD MAP, A NEW CEREMONY.

A COMMUNITY OF MUSICIANS, FILMAKERS, MULTI-MEDIA ARTISTS, PROJECTIONISTS, DESERT FREAKS,  RADICAL THINKERS, MEDICINE WOMEN, POET-SCOUTS, AND PROMOTERS OF THE IMAGINATION.

IT’S  A GUIDED JOURNEY WITH SYMBALS, SIGNS TO POINT YOU TO THE MOUNTAIN, VISIONS IN THE SKY,  BUT THE ROAD IS SHIFTING AND THE FORKS ARE YOURS TO EXPLORE.  THE SHOW IS NEVER THE SAME, IT IS AS MALLEABLE AS OUR SPIRITS AND IMAGINATIONS.  WE WANT TO TRANSFORM SPACES AND THE WAY WE EXPERIENCE MUSIC, TO LOOK TO THE OLD WAYS FOR VISIONS OF THE FUTURE.
